Abstract:
This dataset represents an aquifer sensitivity rating for naturally occurring recharge in the State of Wyoming. This dataset is specifically to be used within a DRASTIC-type aquifer sensitivity/vulnerability analysis. The dataset is in raster format with 500 meter cell size.

Purpose:
This layer was developed specifically to serve as a parameter in a ground-water vulnerability to surface contamination study conducted at the Wyoming Water Resources Center. The DRASTIC-based model requires surficial aquifer recharge as one of its parameters. No other suitable uses for this data are known.

Using the Wyoming Estimated Net Annual Aquifer Recharge dataset (Munn and Arneson, 1998; see link in Source Title above for related metadata) a series of rating equations were applied to make the dataset suitable for use in an additive-overlay type aquifer sensitivity model. The equations applied within ARC/INFO's GRID module were:

Rating = SQRT(Recharge x 6.749) + 1

This rating equation defined by the Wyoming Water Resources Center produces a continuous curve similar to that outlined in EPA's DRASTIC manual (Aller et al. 1987). The curve begins at 1 and has a maximum value of 10. Calculations were done in ARC/INFO's GRID module at a 500 meter cell resolution.
